There is a chain that stretches from the original sound to the ear to the microphone to the recording device to the loudspeaker and back to the ear. This is the chain of contagion, where like produces like. And we believe in it. Recorded music is a form of sympathetic magic.

In this album I listened to the archive and considered it in terms of biological classification's lower taxonomic ranks: family, genus, and species. This led me to listen closely to shared features at different levels of description and classification.

These short pieces are a departure from my previous approach to composition. So is the use of 'small' sounds, presented here as timbrally estranged but morphologically related within their close associations, listened to or performed musically.
