about
Composed from recordings made during the Sound and Rural Architecture Festival, 9 - 29 April 2012 in the Gralheira Mountain Range, São Pedro do Sul, Portugal. The residency and festival were hosted by Binaural/Nodar who have worked over many years within a context of arts and social engagement.
The Hearth, as the title suggests, is composed from the sounds of burning stoves, fireplaces and pots. My research idea was to go back to the two fundamentals of architecture, the hearth and the altar and consider what might be done with sound. I've explored the sonic environment of the altar in subsequent projects and pieces.
A 3"cd-r with 'The Hearth' and 'Foil' (26 limited edition of 26) are available as a mini (8cm) jewelcase: www.jameswyness.com/contact.html

I sing the body electric. In these strange, stretched out, targetted days, the mix of of what we can touch and experience is muddled. A little but country, a little bit city. My laptop talks to me, while outside the bees collect pollen. Hiding in plain sight, with breath held, we wait for the exhale. Jan Jackson
